Portrait miniatures were highly prized in Elizabethan and Jacobean culture and the most brilliant exponents of this art form were Nicholas Hilliard (1547-1619), his pupil Isaac Oliver (c.1565-1617) and Isaac’s son, Peter Oliver (1594-1648).
